02. WHAT IS A COOL ENERGY THERMAL STORE?

A Cool Energy thermal store is a buffer cylinder with instantaneous domestic hot water (DHW) production. It stores heating water up to 95°C and produces hot water on demand via an internal stainless steel coil, rather than storing potable water.

03. HOW IS DOMESTIC HOT WATER PRODUCED?

Domestic hot water is produced instantaneously through a corrugated stainless steel AISI 316L coil inside the tank. This provides mains pressure hot water while offering maximum protection against bacteria formation, as no hot water is stored.

04. IS THIS THERMAL STORE SUITABLE FOR USE WITH A HEAT PUMP?

Yes. The PTSW thermal store is suitable for use with air source and ground source heat pumps, as well as boilers, solar thermal systems, and immersion heaters. Multiple 1½” connections allow easy integration with different heat sources.

05. CAN THE THERMAL STORE WORK WITH SOLAR THERMAL SYSTEMS?

Yes. The unit includes one integrated solar coil, specifically designed to store energy from solar thermal collectors, with a maximum solar coil operating temperature of 110°C.

06. HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT FROM A STANDARD HOT WATER CYLINDER?

Unlike a standard cylinder that stores domestic hot water, this thermal store stores heating water only, produces hot water instantly, reduces legionella risk, and allows multiple heat sources to be connected simultaneously.

07. WHAT IS THE MAXIMUM OPERATING TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE?

The thermal store has a maximum operating temperature of 95°C and maximum operating pressure (heating) up to 0.45 MPa DHW. The coil pressure rating is up to 0.9 MPa. This ensures safe operation across a wide range of system designs.

08. CAN AN IMMERSION HEATER BE FITTED?

Yes. A 1½” connection is provided for fitting an electric heating element, allowing backup or supplementary heating when required.

10. ARE COOL ENERGY THERMAL STORES ELIGIBLE FOR GOVERNMENT GRANT SCHEMES?

Cool Energy Thermal Stores can be part of heating systems that qualify for certain UK government support schemes, such as the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) and heat pump grants — but eligibility depends on the overall system configuration, installer accreditation, and current scheme rules. They do not receive standalone grants; instead, funding applies to the heat pump or renewable heating system with which the thermal store is used. Always check the latest grant criteria and speak to your installer before purchasing.
