Additional Information

01. DOWNLOAD PRODUCT DATA SHEET

02. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF A BUFFER TANK IN A HEAT PUMP SYSTEM?

A buffer tank adds thermal mass and increases system water volume, helping to maintain stable flow rates through the heat pump. This reduces compressor short cycling, stabilises flow and return temperatures, and improves overall efficiency — particularly in zoned systems or low-load conditions.

03. HOW DO I DETERMINE THE CORRECT BUFFER TANK SIZE FOR MY HEAT PUMP?

Buffer tank sizing depends on heat pump output, control strategy, and system volume. A common design guideline is approximately 10–20 litres per kW of heat pump capacity, though requirements vary by manufacturer and system layout. Larger systems or highly zoned installations may benefit from increased buffer volume.

04. CAN COOL ENERGY BUFFER TANKS ACT AS LOW-LOSS HEADERS?

Yes. Cool Energy buffer tanks can function as combined buffer vessels and low-loss headers, providing hydraulic separation between the heat pump circuit and the heating distribution circuit. Multiple connection ports allow flexible pipework arrangements while maintaining stable flow through the heat pump.

05. WHEN IS A BUFFER TANK RECOMMENDED FOR HEAT PUMP INSTALLATIONS?

A buffer tank is recommended where the system water volume is insufficient, where multiple heating zones are controlled independently, or where mixed emitters such as radiators and underfloor heating are used. Many heat pump manufacturers require a buffer tank to meet flow and volume requirements and to protect warranty conditions.

06. WHO SHOULD INSTALL THE BUFFER TANK?

A Cool Energy buffer tank or low loss header should be installed by a qualified heating engineer with experience in heat pump systems. Where the buffer tank forms part of a heat pump installation, the overall system must be designed and commissioned by an MCS-certified installer to meet manufacturer requirements and maintain system warranty.

07. WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY ORDER?

Please expect your delivery to arrive within 7 working days. You will receive email alerts once you've placed your order.
