What is a pipe sleeve kit? A pipe sleeve kit also known as a pipe cover kit, sleeving kit, or pipe shroud is a set of decorative metal tubes and matching floor plates designed to cover the exposed pipework that feeds into your radiator. Rather than leaving bare copper or plastic pipes visible where they emerge from the floor or wall, a pipe sleeve kit slides neatly over them to create a clean, finished appearance. It is one of the simplest and most cost-effective ways to complete the look of a new radiator installation.

What does a Reina pipe sleeve kit include? Each Reina pipe sleeve kit contains two precision-formed metal sleeves and two matching escutcheon floor plates. The floor plates sit flush against the floor around each pipe, concealing any irregular or oversized holes in the floorboards or tiles. The sleeves slide over the pipes between the floor plate and the radiator valve, creating a seamless column of matching metal that ties the whole installation together.

Do I need a plumber to fit a pipe sleeve kit? For new radiator installations, pipe sleeves can be fitted by a competent DIYer. The sleeves simply slide over the pipe before the radiator valve is attached, and no specialist tools are required. However, if you are adding pipe sleeves to a radiator that is already installed and in use, the valves will need to be removed first, which requires draining the relevant section of the heating system. In that case, we recommend having a qualified plumber carry out the work to avoid leaks or system damage.

When is the best time to fit a pipe sleeve kit? The best time is during the initial installation of your radiator, before the valves are connected. At this stage the sleeves can be slid over the pipes freely and the escutcheon floor plates positioned without needing to drain the system or disturb any existing fittings. If you are purchasing a new radiator from Ice Cold Spice, we would always recommend ordering your pipe sleeve kit at the same time so everything arrives together and your installer can fit them as part of a single visit.

Can pipe sleeve kits be cut to length? Yes. Both the 130mm and 200mm Reina sleeve kits can be trimmed to a shorter length if your pipes require it. Measure the distance from the floor plate to the base of the valve tail and cut the sleeve approximately 5mm shorter than this measurement to achieve a clean floating effect. Take care when cutting it is always better to cut a little at a time than to remove too much. If you are not confident trimming the sleeves yourself, any plumber or heating engineer will be able to do this quickly as part of fitting them.

Will pipe sleeves get hot to the touch? The sleeves sit on the supply pipes at floor level, below the valve, where water temperature is at its highest in the system. The metal will therefore become warm during heating operation. They are designed to be touched incidentally rather than handled continuously, but it is worth being mindful of this in households with young children. This is not a safety concern under normal use, but it is a practical consideration if the radiator is positioned in a children's bedroom or family bathroom.

How do I keep pipe sleeves looking their best? Reina pipe sleeves are made from durable metal with a quality surface finish that resists discolouration and tarnishing under normal heating conditions. For routine maintenance, a soft damp cloth is all that is needed to remove dust or watermarks. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch or dull the surface. Chrome and Brushed Brass finishes in particular benefit from being dried after any contact with water to prevent mineral deposits from building up over time.
