FAQs

What makes BonFeu a standout name in outdoor fireplaces? BonFeu is a Dutch brand with a well-earned reputation across Europe for combining robust craftsmanship with genuinely considered design. Every piece in the range is built from 3mm corten steel — a material chosen specifically for outdoor permanence — and the range spans fire bowls, chiminea-style fireplaces, plancha cooking units and fire baskets. What sets BonFeu apart is the way each product balances atmosphere and function: these are pieces that look as good as they perform, and that earn their place in a garden for years to come.

Why does corten steel make BonFeu so well suited to the British outdoors? Corten steel is an engineering material originally developed for structural applications that need to weather outdoors without deteriorating. When exposed to rain and air, it forms a stable, self-sealing patina that slows further corrosion — meaning the more it's exposed to British weather, the more protected it becomes. Unlike painted or powder-coated finishes that can chip or peel, a BonFeu naturally improves with age. The characteristic warm rust-amber tone that develops over time is not a sign of wear; it's the material doing exactly what it was designed to do.

What do customers say once they've experienced a BonFeu? A theme that comes up consistently in customer reviews is surprise at just how well-made BonFeu products feel in person. Comments regularly mention the satisfying weight and solidity of the steel, the quality of the finish, and how much better the piece looks in the garden than even good product photography suggests. Customers who add plancha or grill accessories frequently describe them as among the most-used items in their outdoor setup. The phrase "best buy" appears often — particularly among buyers who had previously owned lighter, less considered fire pits.

How does a BonFeu improve the way people use their outdoor space? A well-placed BonFeu fundamentally shifts how a garden or terrace functions. It creates a natural focal point that draws people together, extends the hours and months that outdoor space gets used, and adds a sensory dimension — warmth, light, the sound and smell of a wood fire — that no other product quite replicates. For many owners, it becomes the reason a patio transitions from a summer-only space into somewhere genuinely used year-round. The cooking capability of many models adds another layer, making the outdoor space a place to eat and entertain rather than simply sit.

What's the story behind BonFeu's distinctive design language? BonFeu was developed in the Netherlands — a country with a strong culture of considered outdoor living and a design tradition that values materials used honestly and forms that age well. That heritage is visible throughout the range: the characteristic three-legged stance, the lasered logo cut into the steel body, the elevated positions that allow airflow and keep heat away from the surface beneath. Each element has a reason behind it. BonFeu continues to release new designs that respond to how people actually cook and gather outdoors, always within the same robust, recognisable aesthetic that has made the brand so enduring across Europe.

Can a BonFeu be used for cooking as well as warmth? Yes — and this is one of the most enjoyable discoveries for new owners. Many models across the BonFeu range are compatible with a suite of cooking accessories: full and half-circle grill grids for open-fire cooking, plancha plates for searing meat, fish and vegetables, and wok rings for outdoor stir-frying. Some models include accessories as standard; others offer them as additions. Cooking over a real wood fire produces results — flavour, char, smokiness — that no gas grill replicates, and doing so around a BonFeu turns a meal into an occasion. It's one of the key reasons customers consistently recommend the range to others.
